Ingredients
Yam ---10 medium size
Toor dal----1/2 cup
Onion-----1 medium size
Garlic -----10 flakes
Green chillies----------10
Tamarind-------- a lemon size
Fennel seeds--------½ teaspoon
Mustard seeds--------½ teaspoon
Green Curry Leaves------1 bunch
Turmeric powder----pinch
Salt as required
Oil-----4 tablespoons
Cooking Instructions
Wash the yams well in water so that all the mud is washed away. Pressure cook the yams for 4 whistles .Cook toor dal in a seperate pan. After it cools down peel off the skin and mash them up well and keep it aside. Soak the tamarind in water and keep it aside.After some time make it into a thick paste and strain it. Add 1/4 cup of water to it. chop the onions and slit the chillies. Cut garlic into small pieces. Heat the oil in a pan and add mustard seeds,fennel seeds and curry leaves. When they splutter add onion,garlic and chillies and saute it well. When they get fried up add the mashed yam,dal and turn over well with a spatula. Add turmeric powder and salt and turn it well. Now pour the tamarind paste and stir well. Keep on stiring for 20 minutes in a medium flame until the yam starts getting as a thick gravy. Serve it with rice.
