Fadda or Appe

Ingredients:

- 1 cup idli rice

- 1/2 cup udad dal

- 1/2 cup chana dal

- 1 tbsp oil for seasoning

- 1 tsp mustard for seasoning

- 1 tsp green chilli paste

- Pinch of asofoetida (hing)

- Salt as to taste

 

How To Make:

Soak the rice, udad dal, and chana dal in water for 8-10 hrs. Grind the three together like you'd do for idli. Ferment the mixture for 8-10 hrs. It should rise just like it would for idli. Make a fodni in medium hot oil adding mustard, little asofoetida (hing), and green chilli paste. Make sure not to burn the seasoning. Add the seasoning to the fermented mixture. Add salt to taste. Add the ready mixture to the medium hot, oiled appe pan. Cover and cook for 3-4 mintues. Uncover and turn the appe. Cook for another 3-4 minutes. The appe should be golden brown on both sides. Serve warm with coconut chutney.
