The crow was flying to meet his grandmother who lived far away. He flew over the forests and the grasslands. Next he had to fly over the desert.
He started early in the morning when it was cooler. In the deserts the nights are cold and the days are very hot. So the crow started very early in the morning when it was cooler, but as the day progressed, it got very hot. The crow was thirsty. There was no sign of water anywhere.
At last, the crow saw a broken terracotta pot. There was some water at the bottom of the pot. The crow could not reach the water with his beak.
He tried to tilt the
pot, but he could not. The pot was heavy and the crow was a small
bird.
He tried to break the pot with his beak, but he could not. The pot was strong and it hurt his beak.
He got a stone in his
beak and tried to break the pot with the stone. But the stone slipped
and fell into the pot.
“I have a good idea. I can bring this water up” thought the crow.
The crow collected some more stones and put them into the pot.
The water in the pot rose a
little. He collected some more stones and put them in the pot.
Soon the water was high enough that the crow was able to drink it and quench his thirst.
